Bangkok: A Cultural Hub since the Beginning
Windchimes is an Asian Fusion restaurant that boasts a variety of dishes from different Asian countries. This month and part of September we will be looking at Thailand an amazing country full of inspiring cuisine and culture. Thailand’s Capital is Bangkok as well as it’s most populous city with over eight million people living within the city limits and 14 million people living in the surrounding Bangkok Metropolitan Region. That’s a lot of people!
Bangkok started as a trading post in the 15th century on the bank of Chao Phyraya River called Ayutthaya Kingdom. Ayutthaya Kingdom existed from 1350 - 1750 and expanded to incorporate current day Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Being both on the River as well as the Gulf of Thailand, Ayutthaya Kingdom was a cultural trading center that shared ideas with China, Europe, India, and Persia. Fast Forward to Modern Bangkok, which is an international hub for transport and health care, and has emerged as a centre for the arts, fashion, and entertainment. It is still among the world’s top tourist destinations.
